11.15.05 Smile, New York
Manifesto is proud to announce the distribution of our newspaper "Smile, New York" in Union Square, NYC on Thursday, November 17th, 2005. "Smile, New York" aims to improve the ride of morning subway commuters by providing them with cheerful local news. Stories include coverage of a recent art installation in Union Square, a feature on DonorsChoose (a web-based non-profit that funds grass roots educational initiatives in NYC), as well as fusion pie recipes, and even illustrated New York City inspired wrapping paper for the holiday season. Want to see for yourself? Download your own copy of "Smile, New York".
"Smile, New York" was written and designed by Elana Dweck, Manifesto's founder, and currently a MFA Design candidate at School of Visual Arts. Elana created this project in one of her MFA Design classes taught by Stefan Sagmeister. "Smile, New York" is Elana's response to the assignment, "Can Design Touch a Community's Heart?". Inspired by her passion for everything NYC, as well her desire to bring a little unexpected happiness to people's daily routines, Elana chose to touch the community of morning subway riders around Union Square. She hopes that readers will find the positive and whimsical slant of her paper refreshing, and of course, give them a little smile.
What do you think of the "Smile, New York" project? If you received a copy of the paper in Union Square on Thursday we'd love to hear your feedback. Did it make you smile?

You know, I've been going to Billy's cart for the last 4 years and had no idea what his name was? Thanks, good job.
